Translia is a high-priced Internet-translation service in Hong Kong. They do not have a phone number. You have to deal with them by e-mail. They do not provide useful translation certificates, so they are mostly useful for hobby translations, but are less useful for legal documents.
AN EXAMPLE IS THEIR “MONEY BACK GUARANTEE” AS REGARDS TIME. THEIR MONEY BACK GUARANTEE SAYS THAT IF THEY DON’T TRANSLATE YOUR DOCUMENT WITHIN THE TIME PROMISED, THEY WILL GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK. WELL, THAT HAPPENED TO ME AND PROBABLY HAPPENS TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. AND WHAT THEY MEAN IS THAT THEY WILL GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK AND NO TRANSLATION, SO THEN YOU HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW THAT THEY TOOK SO LONG AND RUINED YOUR DEADLINE. THEN THEY WILL SAY, “BUT WE CAN CONTINUE PROCESSING THE TRANSLATION IF YOU WANT US TO” BUT ONLY AT THE SAME PRICE AS THEY CHARGED YOU FOR RUSH SERVICE!
So they charge you for rush, they don’t get it done in time, and they tell you that yes, you can have your money back, but only without the translation, or you can pay full price for rush service and get your translation in a week or two.
The only person who I am aware of who actually works there is named Yolanda and she will sign a translation certification stating that the translation provided is true, accurate and complete even if the translation is from a language she doesn’t speak at all like Russian or Swahili.
I guess the big problem with this place is that they have a nice website, which makes them look professional, but the place is run like a sweatshop that uses a lot of contractors who are probably paid pennies and who aren’t particularly competent.
The other big problem is price. They charge the same or more than a regular, local translation service in a major metro like New York, San Francisco, Paris, or London. There’s little point in suffering the irritations of offshoring if there isn’t a price discount.
Bottom line: expensive, inaccurate, no way to talk with them on the phone (they don’t have a phone!), not worth the trouble.
