PostAwesome computer

edelweiss-00

I always enjoy seeing new concepts and prototypes because this is the only way to progress. This computer named Edelweiss build in Switzerland by designer Pius Giger left me speechless. I mean… just look at it! The components used were  not disclosed but… who cares? Some photos of this masterpiece for you to enjoy are below.

  1. Really a masterpiece. Probably the best case mod I ever saw

  2. … to be wasted on some proprietary operating system I’m sure.

  3. Amazing, that deserves some really nice insides.

  4. Yes Eric, because I’m sure linux would have given it +15 internets

    Fucking a

  5. This is a fantastic example of art meets technology. That is some amazing industrial design

  6. wow eric…you must think your soo much better than everyone? its one thing to prefer one OS to another you dont have to be a fucking pretentious ass

  7. I’m glad you people aren’t designers. this is a pile of shit.

  8. this is a dream machine for pc modders.
damn look at the cable management.
    awesome computer is awesome.

  9. I WANT ONE!
This case is art, and anyone who says it’s not is to narrow minded to know what art IS.

  10. amen brother

  11. Turns out it only runs windows Vista.

  12. Eric Schulman you have completely misunderstood the point of life…

  13. Eric, to be honest, who gives a flying fornication what proprietary operating system it runs, as they are all proprietary to a lesser or greater degree.
Drew, ONLY windows Vista, surely that would mean that it would also run just about every flavour of Linux out there and it should happily run OS X as well, I see nothing “ONLY” about it :-)
It’s a wonderful piece of functional Art never the less.

  14. @Eric: “idiotic neckbeard statement”

    What a douchebag.

  15. Blimey – does it make espresso too?

  16. [...] Awesome computer [...]

  17. this is awesome!

  18. i heard it’ a cool mil.

  19. You can in fact determine some information about the components from the pictures provided:

    - Two tandem NVIDIA-chipset SLI graphics cards
    - An Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI motherboard, implying an LGA775 socket that supports an Intel® Core™2 Duo, Core™2 Quad, Core™2 Extreme, Pentium® Dual-Core, Pentium® Extreme Edition, Pentium® D or Pentium® 4 Processor with 1333/1066 MHz FSB
    - An Enermax power supply
    - Vibration dampeners for the hard drive

.. And probably a bunch of other stuff that I can’t be bothered to look up.

  20. this is photoshopped

  21. Where’s the monitor?

  22. It looks like a coffee maker

  23. probably still wont run crysis tho!

  24. What a fucking great coffee machine, can’t see the pictures of this computer their on about?

  25. @Kyle, James, Log, Garry, and Bob
Windows would be a waste… A total waste for this machine. Wait, Windows is a waste, even 7. Keep on preachin’ Eric.

As far as this computer goes, A lot of work was put into it, but that doesn’t make it worthy of all this praise. I could crap in a plastic bag, smoosh it and then staple it to my wall. Doesn’t make it art. It is asymmetric, and gaudy, that makes it less appealing in my book.

    Perhaps these are art too:

  26. Would be really nice if could brew coffee.

  27. Lol, Overclocker. I love GNU as much as the next man, but you need to chill out. Windows is perfectly decent, provided it’s free and you have a damn good reason to use it over Linux. Of which there are, though you will surely protest, SO MANY. As far as comparing this to the links you provided, this actually has a sleek, modern, and finished look to it, as well as appearing to be reasonably usable.

I also enjoyed you comparing the work put into this to the work it would require you to shit in a bag and staple it to your wall. Perhaps it is an apt comparison, as that would test the limits of your creativity.

If you’re so concerned about the amount of PRAISE this is getting, a mod case that likely didn’t take the 10-15 minutes it would take you to perfect your hypothetical magnum opus, maybe you should do something worthy of the TWENTY SECONDS it takes someone to complement it ON THE INTERNET, instead of MOANING IN THE BACKGROUND.

Of course, this would be a lot to expect. A skilled case designer is a relatively uncommon commodity, whereas people like you aren’t nearly worth the proverbial $.10:12 exchange rate. Except, perhaps, as the building materials of a corpse-throne for better men to sit upon.

    TL;DR:
Fuck you, you mouth breathing douche of an internet tough guy. Also, hahahahahaha, that guy thinks symmetry has any correlation with good art, what a dumbass

P.S. – Eric, you’re a pretentious fag, and not worth the effort I gave Overclocker. At least he PRETENDED to contribute in some meaningful way, asshole though he is.

-A Bemused Stumbler, who will never ever ever read any replies you bother to type out on account of stumbling so damn much.

  28. Now girls calm down! Who cares if it runs Windows 3.11, XP, Vista, Debian, SuSe, OpenSolaris or OS/x???? LOL :-) you tools!

Seriously I don’t care if it never runs at all. For a million dollars, I’d say the components behind it will be out of manufacture within 24 months. However it will still look like a coffee machine, or a work of art depending on how you view it.

“No detail on the specs but this is more focus on the design” – still some wanker is sitting there right now thinking, “oh yeah baby it can make coffee and play Crysis at full frame rates, which is going to make all the girls swoon”… seriously… stop masturbating!

  29. Well i was just wanting to respond to Eric’s moronic comment but i see he’s already received a lashing. So i will comment on the windows is better than linux and vise versa. “Super Nintendo is better than Sega!”…… “nuh uh, Sega is better”. Fuckin juvenile.

  30. You people are idiots. All of you who engaged an OS conversation.

Firstly, Eric has proven that with every year trolling gets easier and easier. He’s clearly trolling, and anyone who doesn’t see this is either blind, retarded, a real Windows zealot or all of those.

Yes there are reasons why one would use Linux over DOS, apart from getting DOS at an affordable price or no price at all. I own a legal copy of Windows 3.1, 95, 98SE, XP, Vista, 7, 2000, 2003 and 2008 and STILL run Linux as my primary OS. The main reason for this is that it does things I need better – at least for me. You can use whatever you like, as long as it works for you. JUST, FOR F**K’S SAKE, DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Eric is probably taking a look at your comments and laughing his ass off. Yes it makes him an asshole, but it also makes you stupid.

And yeah, if you put so much effort in hardware modding, you’ll either also take an open-source OS, be it Linux, BSD or anything obscure, because it is much more easily customized. On the other hand, if you *did* put so much effort in hardware modding, it may also mean you don’t want to waste your time with the OS customization, and you’ll rather get an out-of-the-box software package and install a custom theme, and voila. Your choice, again.

Also, the design could have made better. Mainly because it leaves the impression of showoff rather than real art.

    Cheerz ;)

  31. Love it, looks like a coffee machine ;)

  32. It’s architecture! I’d love a house build like that!
