Piwik – Open Source Analytics Alternative

I would like to share something with you. I use Google’s Analytics service for my web analytics needs. It provides the basic functionality that I need. Sometimes I browse through the other features Analytics offers but I hate to have to click through those menus … I would rather have that menu collapsed all the time. This would be the only ` – ` of Analytics.

However, as the software market becomes a bit more open to open source, I am so glad to finally find an alternative to Google’s Analytics service. This ,miracle’ is called Piwik.

This lovely program is the result of the intense development of phpMyVisites.

A bit about this piece of softwares interface. I love it. It’s not quite finished yet, the software being still in beta stage of development. With that in mind, everything is where you would expect to find it. The navigation menu is very practical, even if it’s a css menu and you have to hover it to expose the other menu items, it works like a charm.

The thing, in my opinion, that makes this script so unique is that every report that the script generates using the amazing jQuery framework, is contained in a widget. There is an API provided to help users to make their own widgets, which is great.
