PostHolocube Display

Remember R2-D2 from the Star Wars series? Cute guy and that little bin-like robot knew some holographic tricks, too. Holography has been floating around for some time, but no commercial application has managed to rock our world thus far.

One visionary company thinks this whole situation is about to take a new route, giving us a retro-styled Holocube. This device is supposed to be an all-purpose solution for companies to advertise their products. Instead of annoying fliers, posters and all sort of printed materials, companies can install several Holocubes in key points around the city, saving some trees in the process.

The cube is about 20-inches square wide and it integrates a 40GB hard drive for storing up to 18 hours of compressed video, which can be projected at 1080i resolution within the enclosure. No word on the actual price of the Holocube, but the fact that it is intended for advertising gives us a clue about a pretty high price. Of course, any Star Wars fan could get one of these for their sci-fi-inspired living room. The cube can even be used as a standard monitor, allowing you to watch 3D projected movies or play your favorite video games with a holographic twist.
